The City of Birmingham, Alabama was at a crossroads and public perception was still clinging to a great deal of negative imagery from the past. City workers were going about their jobs each day unconnected with one another other than in passing. First-time Mayor Bernard Kincaid decided to do something about this and formed a committee to research and then formulate a campaign which would not only provide information to employees but also give them an outlet to express their voices, which had never been done in any real way.
Information Birmingham was conceived and I had the lead role in producing the pieces for the campaign which followed. The logo appeared on the back of police patrol cars, downtown on bus stops and also internally on mouse pads and the City Directory. It was a success and went only shortly afterward. Since, the campaign has grown into an integrated network of websites and an extensive intranet CMS as well.
